Manually Setting Up Windows 95/98

On the desktop, double click on the My Computer icon

Double click on Dial-up Networking

Double click on the icon make new connection to open up the New Connection Wizard

In the field "Type a name for the computer you are dialing" enter in OOIDA ISP.  In the select a device field, make sure your modem is displayed and click Next

Enter in the local access number you were given. If you have 10 digit calling in your area, enter the full number in the "Telephone number" field and leave the "Area code field blank. If you do not have or know your local access number, please contact Internet Tech Support at 877-599-2295 to get your local access number. (NOTE: Please verify with your local phone company that the number you are dialing will be a local call for you.  PowerNet Global is not responsible for any long distance charges you incur using the OOIDA ISP service)

This will create the OOIDA ISP Dialer.  Click Finish

Once you click finish, you will see an icon in the Dial-up Networking box called OOIDA ISP. Right click on that icon with your mouse.  A small pop up box will appear.  Find "Create Shortcut" and click on it.  You will be prompted with a message saying that "Windows cannot create a shortcut here, do you want to place it on your desktop", click Yes

Next, right click on the same icon and this time select Properties

The will open the OOIDA ISP Properties dialog box.  Double check and make sure that the local access number is entered correctly.  Make sure that "Use area code and Dialing Properties" is Unchecked

Click on the Server Types tab.   Make sure that "Enable software compression" is the only item checked under Advanced Options and make sure that "TCP/IP" is the only item checked under the Allowed Network Protocols.  Click OK and close the Dial-Up Networking box to go back to your desktop

Click on the Start button.  Go to Settings and select the Control Panel

When the Control Panel opens up, find the Internet Options icon and double click on it.

The Internet Properties dialog box will open up.  In the Home page area, enter in the following address if you would like OOIDA ISP to be your start page when you open Internet Explorer.  If you do not choose to have OOIDA ISP as your start page, you can select any web address you would like to start at when you open IE.  Next click on the Connections tab

In the white box that says "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" make sure OOIDA ISP is selected and click on the Settings button.

Where it says "Dial-up settings" enter in your username and password.  The username needs to be entered as "username@ooidaisp.com"  Click OK, and then click OK again to take you back to the Control Panel.

Once back at the Control Panel, double click on the Network Icon

This will open up the Network dialog box.  In the white box, find the TCP/IP Dial-up Adapter or it might just say TCP/IP.  Click on it once to highlight, and click Properties

You should be prompted with a warning message that you about to change the TCP/IP properties.  Click OK

This will open the TCP/IP Properties dialog box.  Under the IP Address tab, make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked. Then click on the DNS Configuration tab.

Under the DNS Configuration tab, make sure that "Disable DNS" is selected.  Click on the WINS Configuration tab

Under the WINS Configuration tab, make sure that "Disable WINS Resolution" is selected.  Click OK.  You should be after a minute be prompted to restart your computer.  Restart you computer and when it comes back up, find the OOIDA ISP icon that should be on your desktop and double click on it. This will open up the OOIDA ISP dialer.  Just click on the connect button to connect to the Internet.  Once connected, open up Internet Explorer or any other browser you prefer to view the Internet
